SKEW
SKEW was born out of a series of workshops by Seijiro Murayama
SKEW is an international collective consisting of 11 improvisers living in Brussels and France. We come together around the desire to deepen a primordial research on the practice of non-idiomatic improvisation. The project engages in collective improvisation in the form of "parallel solos“ or simultaneous solos.

The project engages in collective improvisation in the form of "parallel solos“ - several musicians play together while each one retains their solo.
There are 3 ideas behind this artistic direction :
1, The essence of improvisation practice lies in the depth and openness of solo improvisation.
2, To avoid risks of idiomatisation of non-idiomatic improvisation, we try to reflect idiomatically in order to radicalise our non-idiomatic practice.
3, The artistic is always linked to the socio-cultural. Our emphasis is on sharing each one's particularity, on working with the incomprehensible and the elusive through attentive and patient listening.
